Greenleaf and Caldwell News: Mid-November 2026 Update

· By Paul Knighton

As November opens, Greenleaf and Caldwell are moving through a quiet-but-decisive stretch: Veterans Day ceremonies land November 11 and 14, Caldwell broke ground on a new fire station that will shorten emergency response times, and the first Fred Meyer store in the city edges toward its late-January opening. Meanwhile the holiday calendar is set in stone, from the Caldwell Holiday Craft Bazaar November 13-14 to Greenleaf's Country Christmas Bazaar and the Winter Wonderland Festival November 20-22, all within a short drive of 20602 Academy Rd.

A Week Built Around Veterans

The Kilroy Coffee Klatch at the Warhawk Air Museum gathered Idaho's largest monthly veterans group on Tuesday, November 3, and the museum's 23rd annual Veterans Breakfast follows Saturday, November 7 from 8:00 AM to noon. The centerpiece of the week is the annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Caldwell Veterans Memorial Hall at 1101 Cleveland Blvd on Wednesday, November 11 at 11:00 AM, with guest speakers, refreshments, and a tour of the hall, followed by the Idaho Veterans Parade in downtown Boise Saturday, November 14. Both are easy drives from 20602 Academy Rd. Plan your Veterans Day week with our full guide.

Fire Station 4 and the Mayor's Fall Report

Caldwell broke ground on Fire Station 4 near Lake Avenue and Karcher Road at the end of October, a project aimed squarely at cutting response times in southeast Caldwell, which had stretched past 18 minutes in some areas. The same week, Mayor Eric Phillips gave his fall city update covering the search for a new police chief, the sale of part of Ustick Park to the Canyon County Paramedics District for a new paramedic station next to Fire Station 2, an e-bike ordinance, the Exit 26 bridge replacement timeline, and corridor improvements planned for Centennial, Farmway, and Highways 19 and 20/26. Highway 19 is the road that runs straight through Greenleaf, so those corridor plans matter to anyone commuting from 20602 Academy Rd to Caldwell or Nampa.

The Retail Pipeline Keeps Moving

The big retail story continues just up the road. Fred Meyer's first Caldwell store, a roughly 155,000-square-foot one-stop store at Highway 20/26, is under construction and now scheduled to open in late January 2027, and on October 19 the company announced a second Caldwell location, a roughly $100 million store and fuel center anchoring the Karcher Commons development in south Caldwell with an opening expected in 2028. Albertsons' new 60,000-square-foot store at Karcher Road and Lake Avenue, announced in August, is moving forward as well. For Greenleaf residents, that means groceries, jobs, and tax base within about 15 minutes of home, while the small town keeps its quiet character. Read the full Fred Meyer story.

Greenleaf Keeps Its Own Rhythm

The Greenleaf City Council's November meeting date is posted with the agenda at greenleaf-idaho.us, continuing a fall that has been unusually productive for a town of roughly 800 people. The town's water facility plan work and the fiber-easement agreement with Syringa Networks keep moving, and the community calendar turns toward the Country Christmas Bazaar at the community center Friday, November 20. It is the kind of civic rhythm that makes Greenleaf feel like a real community, minutes from 20602 Academy Rd. Catch up on our early November news.

The Holiday Kickoff Is Nearly Here

Mid-November stacks the deck for the holiday season. The Caldwell Holiday Craft Bazaar fills O'Connor Field House Friday and Saturday, November 13-14, the Caldwell Chamber's Idaho Legislative Send-Off luncheon lands Thursday, November 19, Greenleaf's Country Christmas Bazaar returns to the community center Friday, November 20, and the Winter Wonderland Festival lights up Indian Creek Plaza with more than 1.5 million lights November 20-22, with the display staying on through mid-January. The Music Association of Canyon County adds Canyon Winds at Jewett Auditorium November 14, and the Christmas Carol tradition opens at the Morrison Center in Boise November 19. Preview the bazaar or preview Winter Wonderland.

Farmers Markets Hang On Into November

One surprise of the month: the Nampa Farmers Market's 37th season runs Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Lloyd Square Park, rain or shine, April through late November, so early-November Saturdays still offer fresh produce, artisan breads, local honey, and prepared food, about 20 minutes from Greenleaf. A Winter Wonderland Market at Lloyd Square follows on Small Business Saturday, November 28, and the Greenleaf market on Highway 19 keeps its Wednesday afternoon stands through the late season as the harvest allows.

Small Town, Forward Progress

What makes this corner of Canyon County appealing is the balance: a week honoring veterans, a fire station that shortens response times, corridor work on the very highway that runs through Greenleaf, and a retail pipeline that keeps adding jobs, all while the holiday season still begins with a bazaar at the community center. A home like 20602 Academy Rd gives you acreage, a powered shop, solar panels with battery backup, and the quiet, while everything above sits 10 to 15 minutes away. If you are comparing the Treasure Valley's communities, that combination is hard to beat.
