Greenleaf and Caldwell News: Early November 2026 Update

· By Paul Knighton

As October closes, Greenleaf and Caldwell are moving into a decisive stretch: Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, the town council's regular fall meeting this Thursday, October 29, and the first holiday events of the season lining up for mid-November. On top of the familiar small-town rhythm, the area keeps adding quietly lasting improvements, from a water facility plan to fiber internet to new retail in Caldwell, all within an easy drive of 20602 Academy Rd.

Greenleaf City Council: Thursday, October 29

The Greenleaf City Council holds its regular fall meeting Thursday, October 29 at Greenleaf City Hall, with the agenda posted on the town's website at greenleaf-idaho.us. It follows the council's October 6 meeting and closes out a fall that has been unusually productive for a town of roughly 800 people. Planning & Zoning has been equally busy, and the agendas and minutes stay public for anyone who wants to follow along. It is the kind of civic rhythm that makes Greenleaf feel like a real community, minutes from 20602 Academy Rd.

Election Day: Tuesday, November 3

Canyon County voters head to the polls Tuesday, November 3, with all county polling locations open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. In-person early voting continues at the Canyon County Elections Building through Friday, October 30 for anyone who wants to vote on their own schedule. Idaho voters will decide four statewide measures plus state and county races, and in a small precinct like Greenleaf every ballot genuinely counts. Read our full voter guide.

Water and Fiber: Quiet Upgrades With Long Payoffs

Two long-running projects define Greenleaf's deliberate approach to growth. The town has opened a public comment period and public meeting around its Water Facility Plan, with 2026 sampling addressing water quality and the capacity of the water and sewer systems for the years ahead. And the council has been working toward a fiber-easement agreement with Syringa Networks to bring high-speed fiber connectivity to City Hall, part of the same effort that is extending fiber service toward the community. For buyers considering 20602 Academy Rd, these are the unglamorous investments that make small-town life comfortable for decades. Read our fiber update.

Caldwell Retail Keeps Growing

The big retail story continues just up the road. Fred Meyer's first Caldwell store is under construction and now scheduled to open in late January 2027, and on October 19 the company announced a second Caldwell location, a roughly $100 million store and fuel center anchoring the Karcher Commons development in south Caldwell with an opening expected in 2028. Albertsons' new 60,000-square-foot store at Karcher Road and Lake Avenue, announced in August, is moving forward as well. For Greenleaf residents, that means groceries, jobs, and tax base within about 15 minutes of home, with the small town keeping its quiet character. Read the full Fred Meyer story.

The Holiday Season Takes Shape

November 20 opens the holiday stretch close to home: Greenleaf's Country Christmas Bazaar returns to the community center that Friday, the Winter Wonderland Festival lights up Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell with more than 1.5 million lights November 20-22, and the Veterans Day ceremonies and parade land November 11 and 14 before that. Preview the bazaar, preview Winter Wonderland, or plan your Veterans Day week.

Small Town, Forward Progress

What makes this corner of Canyon County appealing is the balance: a town where the council meeting is worth attending, the fiber line and water plan are taken seriously, and the holidays still start with a bazaar at the community center. A home like 20602 Academy Rd gives you the acreage, the shop, and the quiet, while everything above sits 10 to 15 minutes away. If you are comparing the Treasure Valley's communities, that combination is hard to beat.
