This Week Near Greenleaf: Back to School and Labor Day Weekend 2026

· By Paul Knighton

This is one of the liveliest stretches of the year in the Treasure Valley. The Western Idaho Fair is in its final days, Greenleaf children head back to class Monday, and Labor Day weekend brings hot air balloons, music festivals, and barbecue competitions just a short drive from home. If you live at 20602 Academy Rd, here is everything happening near you from August 28 through September 7.

Western Idaho Fair: Final Days Through August 30

Idaho's largest state fair wraps up its 10-day run on Sunday, August 30 at Expo Idaho in Boise. The final weekend is packed with carnival rides, midway games, livestock exhibits, and a strong grandstand lineup. Concert highlights this weekend include Ice-T's Art of Rap Showcase (Thursday, August 27), Lee Brice (Friday, August 28), and the big finale celebrations on August 29 and 30. It is about 40 minutes from Greenleaf, and the closing weekend is a classic way to send off the summer.

Saturday, August 29: Art Spark Community Art Party

A free, family-friendly community art event takes over Kleiner Memorial Park in Meridian on Saturday, August 29. Hands-on art projects, live demonstrations, and creative activities welcome all ages. It is a relaxed way to spend a late-summer afternoon, roughly 20 minutes from Greenleaf.

Monday, August 31: First Day of School in Greenleaf

Greenleaf Elementary School begins the 2026-2027 school year on Monday, August 31. After the Open House on August 27, families across the community are ready for a fresh start. Small class sizes and a supportive, tight-knit community are part of what makes Greenleaf schools special for kids and parents alike.

Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic: September 2-6

More than 40 colorful hot air balloons launch at dawn each morning at Ann Morrison Park in Boise from Wednesday, September 2 through Sunday, September 6, over Labor Day weekend. Evening glow events add to the spectacle, and admission is free. It is one of the Treasure Valley's most beloved annual traditions and about 35 minutes from Greenleaf, making it a perfect sunrise outing with coffee in hand.

Labor Day Weekend: September 4-7

Labor Day weekend kicks off the fall event season closer to home. On Friday, September 4, the 3rd Annual Downtown Nampa Music Festival brings Treasure Valley bands to Lloyd Square Park from 5:00 to 10:00 PM, with food trucks, local vendors, and an all-ages vibe. Tickets are $10 per person and the park is about 20 minutes from Greenleaf.

On Saturday, September 5, the Idaho Meat and Tater BBQ Fest and Car Show brings a KCBS-sanctioned barbecue competition, a classic car show, live music, and a beer garden to Kleiner Memorial Park in Meridian. Free admission and family-friendly, about 20 minutes from home.

Farmers Markets Near Home

As the season winds down, the local markets keep the community connected:

  • Greenleaf Farmers Market · Wednesdays, 3:00-6:00 PM on Highway 19. The closest market to 20602 Academy Rd, with local produce, honey, and baked goods.
  • Farm to Fork Market, Caldwell · Tuesdays, 5:00-8:00 PM at Indian Creek Plaza, with Tuesdays on the Creek live music following at 6:00 PM through September 29.
  • Nampa Farmers Market · Saturdays through October at Lloyd Square Park, with a wide selection of produce, breads, and crafts.

What's Next: A Full Fall Ahead

Once Labor Day passes, the fall calendar really takes off. The Indian Creek Festival arrives September 18-19, the ICA Finals Rodeo and the Nampa Home & Lifestyle Expo close out September, and October brings pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and harvest festivals a short drive away. September is also Sunnyslope Wine Month on Idaho's premier wine trail southeast of Greenleaf.

For anyone at 20602 Academy Rd, the balance is the real reward. You can watch balloons rise over Boise at sunrise on a Saturday, spend Sunday in the orchard, and still come home to a quiet, fully fenced property with solar power, a tankless water heater, and a powered shop for projects and toys.

If you are considering making Greenleaf your home, I would love to show you around this season. Get in touch to schedule a tour of 20602 Academy Rd and see everything this community has to offer.
