· By Paul Knighton

September is one of the most beautiful months in the Treasure Valley, and for wine lovers it marks the start of harvest season on the Sunnyslope Wine Trail. Just 15 minutes from 20602 Academy Rd in Greenleaf, more than a dozen wineries and vineyards along the Sunnyslope byway southwest of Caldwell open their doors for tastings, tours, and special harvest events. Whether you are a seasoned oenophile or simply enjoy a scenic afternoon drive through vineyard-covered hills, Sunnyslope Wine Month offers a world-class experience right in our backyard.

What Is the Sunnyslope Wine Trail?

The Sunnyslope Wine Trail winds through the Snake River Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA), Idaho's oldest and most prominent wine-growing region. The trail connects 17 wineries and vineyards spread across rolling hills, orchards, and scenic farmland just southwest of Caldwell. The area's volcanic soils, warm days, and cool nights create ideal conditions for growing award-winning varietals including Riesling, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo.

From 20602 Academy Rd, the trailhead is about a 15-minute drive southwest. You can easily spend an afternoon visiting two or three wineries, or make a full day of exploring the entire trail.

September Is Sunnyslope Wine Month

Throughout the entire month of September, the Sunnyslope Wine Trail comes alive with harvest season activities. Participating wineries offer special tastings, behind-the-scenes vineyard tours, new vintage releases, and exclusive wine club offerings. Many wineries also host live music on weekends, making it a perfect outing for couples, friend groups, or anyone who appreciates Idaho's growing wine culture.

The grape harvest is in full swing during September, and the sight of vineyard workers picking clusters against a backdrop of golden hills is a scene straight out of a postcard. The autumn light across the Sunnyslope is stunning, with warm tones that photographers and nature lovers will appreciate.

Beyond Wine: The Sunnyslope Experience

The Sunnyslope area offers more than just wine. The scenic byway itself is a beautiful drive through working farmland, fruit orchards, and vineyard-covered hills. In September, the orchards are heavy with apples and pears, and roadside farm stands sell fresh local produce. Several wineries partner with local food vendors and food trucks on weekends, and some host private events and weddings in their vineyard settings.

The area also connects easily to other Treasure Valley attractions. After a morning on the wine trail, you could head into Caldwell for lunch at Indian Creek Plaza, visit the Greenleaf Farmers Market on a Wednesday afternoon, or simply return home to enjoy a glass of Sunnyslope wine on your own patio at 20602 Academy Rd.

Why Greenleaf Is the Ideal Home for Wine Country Living

Living at 20602 Academy Rd means you are just minutes from one of Idaho's premier wine regions. The Sunnyslope Wine Trail is closer to Greenleaf than it is to most parts of Boise or Meridian, making it a genuine local amenity for residents. And when you are not exploring the trail, you come home to a thoughtfully updated property with modern systems, solar power, a tankless water heater, and a fully fenced yard with a fire pit and producing fruit tree.

It is the kind of home that makes you want to invite friends over, fire up the grill, and open a bottle of locally grown wine. If that sounds like the life you are looking for, I would love to show you around.
